Does the paint on football fields hurt the grass at all?

Actually, and this was news to me, painting grass can actually help the grass. It helps absorb sunlight and protects the grass from the cold. Turf paint contains small amounts of ammonia which converts into nitrogen, a fertilizer for the grass. Additionally, I would bet that the hoards of football players and marching bands trampling on the grass in cleats and patent leather shoes does far more harm than the paint.
