does our military try and keep from destroying nature when possible during war?

    No, not really. The military usually takes the view that the protection of national security trumps all other interests. Thus, even in training the military can, and does, engage in actions that pretty harmful to the environment. One of the more famous cases was the Navy’s use of the island of Vieques for bombing training. However, through the American court system, citizens have been able to successfully advocate for the protection of the environment and force the military to change its policies.
