The federal government is moving towards including more hybrid vehicles in their fleet. In early 2010, the General Services Administration purchased 5,600 gas-electric hybrid vehicles. The total # of hybrids in the government’s fleet is now 11,000, or almost 2% of its vehicles. This seems pretty low, but the federal government seeks to cut federal vehicle petroleum use by 30% by 2020. The Department of Energy has also stated its intention to have an all-hyrbrid fleet in the next three years. Furthermore, the Obama administration has pledged to buy the first 100 electric cars produced in America.
