President Barrack Obama’s economic stimulus package, which passed in early 2009, attempts to begin dealing with the elimination of waste. It includes $600 million to cleanup hazardous waste. It also includes $3 billion towards new renewable energy sources. A large portion of this money has gone to companies which turn our waste into energy. Clearly the federal government is taking interest into our waste management system.
The EPA is in charge of waste management in the United States and they are a cabinet of the federal government. The EPA sets the standards for waste management which then leads to state to state specific regulation, then county, city, etc.
