Does our energy production hurt the environment more than anything else?

“Global combustion of fossil fuels and other materials places almost 7 billion tons of carbon, in the form of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. On average, Earth’s oceans, trees, plants and soils absorb about one-half of this carbon. The balance remains in the air and is responsible for the annual increase in the atmosphere.”

This is a very significant environmental impact, and if you include the energy production that make cars run, than it may, in fact, be the most harmful force acting on our environment
