Technically Onstar uses more energy because it is an electric device, but this energy comes from the battery whic his naturally charged when you are driving. Having Onstar wont affect your fuel economy, so unless you plan on just sitting around in your driveway using Onstar all the time, there is no need to worry about the extra energy.
