Does Obama allow mountain top removal mining methods?

Yes. It looks like he doesn’t oppose it to the point of banning it. However, he did make some effort to make it more regulated and reduce the damage. Based on the announcements from June of last year, approval for new mines will be harder to obtain and require more environmental examination. That did recently result in Environmental Protection Agency blocking 127 out of 175 proposed new mines. The fact that not all of the mines were blocked dissatisfied opponents of mountaintop mining, who view the choice of mines to be allowed to open rather arbitrary and implying the power of coal lobbies. In any case, it shows that the EPA (and Obama administration) are not willing to block this type of mining altogether, for now at least.
