No, but United Water New York (UWNY) proposed the construction of one on the Hudson River. Rockland County gets most of its water supply from UWNY; the proposed desalination plant would be taking millions of gallons from the River for treatment each day, and the treated water would be sold to residents for drinking. Environmental groups like Food & Water Watch and Riverkeeper are opposed to the plant on the grounds that it would have an adverse impact on wildlife in the river. It will also be very energy-intensive, using much more electricity than a conventional water treatment facility.
