Compared to the 19 states that do not produce any natural gas (as of 2009), such as Maine, Iowa, Minnesotta, and Massachusetts, New York does produces a decent amount of natural gas. The U.S. Department of Energy lists New York as producing 44.8 billion cubic feet in 2009 (44,849,000,000), however, compared to Texas, which produced 6.8 trillion cubic feet that same year (6,818,973,000,000), it is definitely not even close to being the highest producing state. Other high-producing states that year included Wyoming at 2.3 trillion, Oklahoma at 1.9 trillion, Louisiana at 1.5 trillion, and Colorado, also at 1.5 trillion.
