According to the New York City government’s website, 6% of New York City’s electricity comes from renewable sources. 20 megawatts of wind energy have been purchased for use by the city government starting in 2008, and the city is also working to increase the use of methane and solar power within its limits. Residents of the city may also choose to pay for their electricity to come from renewable sources through a variety of electric companies. These companies are explored and compared in further detail in the second link.
