Does my TV consume energy even when it is off?

Yes all electrical appliances do consume energy as long as they are connected to a power source. By unplugging items you are not using you can reduce your carbon foot print and perhaps your energy bill.

It is true all appliances pull something as long as they are connected to a hot connection. Unplugging things is the way to go, but can be tedious. At home, everything that I can afford to plug into a surge protector I do. One, it is protected from surges which is always a plus; two – this is the nice part – I can flip a switch to make everything stop pulling electric, as opposed to trying to get to the outlet behind the couch, desk, TV stand, etc..
