Pollution from coal mining in West Virginia is greater than that of Montana.  West Virginia produces roughly 144 million tons of coal, and Montana produces about 40 million.  The larger the mining scale, the more pollution will be emitted.  In relation to humans, there will always be repercussions from coal mining because of the harmful dust that can lead to respiratory problems such as black lung.  The dust does not simply settle and can be carried on clothing and air currents endangering not only miners but people in the vicinity of the mines.
