Mold definitely grows better on drywall. However, there’s a kind of “mold resistant” drywall on the market. Drywall is usually a panel of gypsum plaster sandwiched between who thick sheets of paper, but mold-resistant drywall substitutes fiberglass for the paper!
You can also try waterproofing your regular drywall, as mold only starts growing when the drywall is first damaged by water.
