Does the melting of glaciers affect marine life?

Yes. Algae is a source of abundant food and plays a critical role in the health of the whole ecosystem. A decrease in glacial ice leads to a decrease in plankton such as algae that are accustomed to growing underneath the ice. As the algae and plankton are food sources for many creatures, a decrease in their numbers can lead to a decrease in food supply all the way up the food chain, including whales.
