Meditation can lower blood pressure, when done consistently over time as a stress-reduction practice. The focus during meditation should be on breathing, “non-doing,” and self-acceptance. Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., founder of “The Center for Mindfullness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society,” is an expert in the field of stress reduction through meditation. Many illnesses are caused by stress on our bodies, and by reducing stress, we create an atmosphere of healing and well-being. Currently, studies on meditation and its beneficial qualities are being conducted at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
