The results seem as though they would point to such an implication. That doesn’t mean that all smokers in the Pacific Northwest are at a higher risk; some areas experience less wood stove use than others. Also, the season for using wood stoves for heating is generally very short throughout much of the Pacific Northwest, due to the highly temperatre climate and the wetter, warmer winters than our friends further north and on the East Coast experience. This could point to a lesser risk for Pacific Northwestern smokers than the risk the study indicates. Of course, we can’t make any conclusions until we have a separate study done on smokers on the Pacific Northwest.
