In most of the world, yes. In North America and western Europe, however, deforestation has mainly occurred due to unsustainable agricultural practices that involved clear-cutting the land and then growing crops or raising livestock on it in a way that made it impossible for trees to grow there again. But in most developing countries, logging is the main cause. Lists of primary causes for deforestation worldwide typically include logging, alongside urbanization, unsustainable agriculture, mining and oil exploitation.
