Only in the sense that we need our lungs to breathe in. Air must pass over our olfactory sensors in our nose in order to smell and so air must move past them which humans do by breathing in.
actually, they have discovered taste receptors in some of the small lung cells, so we can now add lungs to our olfactory system.
