Determining the number of homeless people as well as which city in America has the most homeless people is quite difficult to determine since the estimates vary depending on what method was used for tracking. But according to a study conducted in 2007 by the National Alliance to End Homelessness, Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington State, and Washington, D.C. have the highest rates of homelessness. “California was the state with most homeless people in 2005, about 170,000, followed by New York, Florida, Texas and Georgia.”
There are a number of different studies out there that sometimes suggest different things, but a number of sources do seem to be in agreement that Los Angeles does have the largest homeless population. This has to do with the city’s warm temperatures and lack of law enforcement against loitering and panhandling.
