Does the LEED certification effect what a house looks like at all?

Function follows form and function follows form. So, in order to reduce the amount of energy that a house consumes (how it functions), what the houselooks like (how it is formed) will be impacted. However, the efficiency of a building can be increased significantly just by upgrading lighting and heating and cooling systems, without significantly altering what the house looks like superficially.  However, there are some fundamentals about house site specific house design that would dictate how a building is constructed. For example, south facing windows to maximize passive solar heating and an earth sheltered north side to insulate the house are two strategies to increase energy efficiency that would impact the house design.
