Does leaving my computer open but asleep waste a lot of energy?

It wastes only a minimal amount of energy itself, but it’s not the only gadget that does this. Almost anything plugged in, even if it’s off, is still using energy. Your TV, coffee pot, computer, your video games – all of these things can start to add up, especially if you consider how many of these things worldwide are left plugged in. A good rule for your computer is this: if you are planning on using it in the next couple hours, put it in sleep mode. If you are not going to use it for a while, like at the end of the day when you’re going to sleep, shut it down entirely. You could save energy with your other gadgets by simply unplugging them when you are not using them, or shutting off the switch on a power strip.
