The LA river, a concrete channel for urban runoff (famous for its depiction in movies such as the chase scene in Terminator 2 and the car racing scene in Grease), only flows when the LA basin receives significant rainfall. Since the 1980’s there has been talk of restoration projects to eliminate the concrete and create public parks along the LA river. Plans are currently being discussed.
