Environmental conditions in Los Angeles do make the area more susceptible to fire than San Diego. Especially with the current drought and decreased budget to prevent fires along with drier environmental conditions, Los Angeles has experience more widespread fire incidences that burned a larger area. USA Today reports that as of last year there have been 1,194 fires damaging 829,200 acres of land. In San Diego, as of 2008, only 273,000 acres of land were destroyed by fires. In both counties, there is a proposal for the cities to cut off power during fire season when there are also dry fierce winds to prevent fires in advance.
