Does it take more energy to make skim or non fat milk?

Nonfat milk is often called skim milk so the processes for making both are quite similar. The milk from the cow has the fat content removed, causing it to be thinner and richer in taste. The process to for non-fat milk is now highly mechanized. Before industrialization, cows were milked and most fat solids rose to the top, producing cream. This top layer would be skimmed off.
