Does it take more energy to make a new car than it does to keep an old inefficient one on the road?

Even if you want to trade in your old clunker for a hot new Prius, the production and manufacture cost in terms of emissions will be greater than the trade. It is better to buy a used car or hold onto the one you have than buy a new one simply because it uses a lot of energy to build a car. Plus, if your car goes into a landfill that is not an environmentally friendly place for it to be.
