It would be safe to assume that it takes more energy to produce glass than ceramics. Producing glass is much more complicated than producing ceramics. To make glass, there are also a lot of chemicals involved. “Barium is sometimes used to increase glass’ brilliance, and boron can be added to increase heat resistance. Chemicals that reduce the melting point of the silica are also frequently used.” On the other hand, ceramics make use of clay, and require less work to produce.
