The amount of juice contained in a fruit is related to the water content of a fruit. In this case, we simply compare the water content by percent of apples and oranges. Apples are approximately 84% water, depending on the species and growing condition of an apple. Oranges are about 87% water. Since oranges have a higher water content, it will produce slightly more fruit juice than apples. Therefore, it does take more apples to make apple juice than it does oranges to make orange juice.
