Does it take a lot of energy to raise chickens for food?

It seems like the biggest problem with industrial farming is the pollution created, not energy use (although that’s a problem too, it’s not one I can really find very much information on, comparatively). More energy is probably used in processing and transporting chicken products after slaughter than in the raising of chickens themselves. However, China has found a way to turn waste from chicken farms into fuel for a power source.
