It depends on the type of sun the heater is receiving. Less sun or indirect sunlight will take longer to heat the water in the solar heater, but direct sunlight on a clear day will heat the water within a much shorter time. A more conventional gas or electric water heater is usually recommended with solar heater systems, for hot water use on cloudy days, at high-volume times, and at night.
