Does it matter what type of paint is on cans to recycle them?

Because aluminum cans are manufactured with several added layers, including the exterior paint, it becomes necessary in the recycling process to include a thorough burning stage in which the can is stripped of these layers. Fortunately, this burning process is effective at removing any superfluous layers or debris from the can, making wide-scale aluminum recycling remarkably efficient.
