According to an article on Barbados.org, the sea turtles are sociable and accustomed to humans. They are fed and cared for by locals and it seems safe to swim with them. I doubt the sea turtle would tolerate a person holding on to them as they swim if it hurt them.
The sea turtles are probably not injured by a human hanging on to them as they swim, although they may be disturbed by it if they are unaccustomed to human interaction. In some regions however, it may actually be illegal to “ride a sea turtle” because it may be considered a form of wild life harassment and possibly detrimental to the animal.
