It is rare, but the all time record low was on May 17, 1979. At an elevation of 13,770 feet, a temperature of 12 degrees Fahrenheit was recorded. Hawaii stays warm because of its tropical location, but the mountains can obtain lower temperatures because of the elevation. On April 4, 2010, a 19 year record low of 59 degrees was recorded in Honolulu.
