India has the potential to develop many types of renewable energy, including power from wind and biomass. However, the most ambitious renewable energy plan the Indian government has considered so far revolves around solar energy. A proposed plan to make India a global leader in solar energy generation would have the country producing 20 Gigawatts of solar energy by the year 2020. This would greatly help to reduce India’s carbon footprint, but it is very unlikely that the plan can succeed without the financial support of industrialized countries. India has asked developed countries like the United States to give it monetary support to help with its solar power goals. However, it so far remains unclear whether the developed world will step forward to help India make this ambitious clean energy plan a reality.
