Does the increase in number of places with wireless internet (coffee shops, libraries, etc.) caused an overall increase in electricity consumption?

Anything plugged into an outlet that uses electricity will help cause an overall increase in electricity consumption. This includes the wireless hotspot transmitters that are in coffee shops, etc. The benefits of wireless internet far override the negativities of using more electricity. If electricity was produced from a renewable and non-polluting source, then the increase in usage would not be an issue.
