Does illegal logging put a lot of GHG’s into the atmosphere?

Illegal logging is a big contributor to global warming worldwide. In Indonesia, at least 70% of the logging that occurs is probably illegal, and this has helped make Indonesia the world’s third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases. About 10% of the wood sold worldwide was logged illegally. Much of this wood is cut in tropical developing countries, then sold in the US, Europe, and other industrialized regions. Unfortunately, most industrialized nations still do not have strong policies in place to prevent the importation of illegally cut wood.
