Yes. Hydrogen is currently mostly extracted from natural gas, a fossil fuel. A large amount of energy is used to extract hydrogen from the natural gas, not to mention the energy usedto capture the gas itself, and the CO2 produced from extraction. The other method of capturing carbon involves electrolysis–applying an electrical current to water to split it into hydrogen and oxygen. Quite a lot of energy goes into hydrogen production.
