Does helium go out of balloons faster than air?

Yes, helium escapes balloons more quickly than air.  This is NOT because helium molecules are smaller than other molecules in the air, since helium molecules’ size does not make helium escape through holes in the elastic (this is a common misconception).  Instead, helium is a faster molecule than many of the other air molecules, because it is so light, and this allows it to escape more quickly.
