Does growing corn cause a lot of pollution?

Provided that every human or natural activity uses energy, growing corn contributes to emissions. But it’s not possible to call it “pollution” because, plants at the same time help fighting CO2 emissions by capturing them at night. Corn in particular is a highly water-intensive crop. We can discuss on this. Another issue with corn might be the genetic modification of it. But as far as “regular” growing goes, it cannot be called a “polluting” activity.
