Does a cell grow throughout its life?

No.  The cell life-cycle is devided into four phases:  prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telephase.  The cell grows the most during prophase.  During metaphase, the cell stops growing and begins to use its energy to prepare for cell division, called mitosis.  The cell divides into two daughter cells during telephase.  These two cells then repeat the process.
