Yes. Three of the ships are not especially eco-friendly, two being overhauled from boats that were previously used for environmentally sound activities and one being little more than aninflatable raft. But they decided to “go green” with the newest large ship, The Esperanza (Spanish for “hope”). Among the changes they made to the Russian fire-fighting ship were a more efficient diesel engine, water recycling systems, the ability to use waste as fuel, bilge water purifiers, a hull with no TBT paint, “ammonia-based refrigeration and air-conditioning, and an environmentally and economically efficient propulsion system to reduce CO2 emissions.”
