Does green energy make energy costs cheaper for the consumer?

At the moment, no, at least not initially. Renewable energy tends to cost more up front (for constructing plants and generators), but to have comparable or lower ongoing costs. As the government gets more on board with renewable energy, the cost for the consumer will lower, and in some areas of the country home solar installations can pay for themselves in a matter of years.
