Does Germany pay its residents for producing solar energy?

The German government doesn’t pay, but has instated a feed-in tariff which requires utilities companies to pay individual households a fixed rate for any renewable energy (including solar) that they contribute to the grid. If they don’t pass any power back to the grid, they apparently don’t get paid for producing solar power.
