Does France have a smaller carbon footprint because of their nuclear power program?

Yes, to some extent. Nuclear power in France is very highly developed, with 59 reactors, providing 78.8% of France’s energy needs. France as a result has only 1/3 of the per capita carbon footprint that the US has. In figures, France has 6.24 tons of emissions per person, while the US has 18.99. Surprisingly, France has lower footprint than Germany, a well known renewable energy using country and lower than the EU average as well.
