Does fast food beef come from old dairy cows?

Yes. Dairy cows are bred to produce large amounts of milk. When they get older and their milk production decreases they are “retired” and sold for meat. Meat from dairy cows is lower in quality than that of cows bred specifically for their meat, so it is not used for things like steak. Instead, it is turned into pet food, hog or poultry feed, ground beef, and fast-food hamburgers.
