Excluding Russia, all of Europe together produces less than half the natural gas the US produces. The Netherlands, UK, and Norway dominate the industry with close to 85% of Europe’s production, almost entirely from fields offshore in the North Sea (although the Netherlands’ giant Groningen gas field is onshore).
Much of Europe is supplied by natural gas that comes from Russia. Although there is some natural gas production from Russia in Europe, by far most of it comes from the West Siberian Basin, across the Urals in Asia.
