Does ethanol come from corn?

    Ethanol can be made from many things; see link. In the US, ethanol for fuel is made mainly from corn. In Brazil, most of the ethanol is made from sugar cane, a much more efficient base.

    Yes, ethanol can come from corn. However, it can also come from many other plant-based sources. Ethanol is made from starch that is fermented into sugar, and then into alcohol. Crops that can make ethanol include: barley, wheat, sorghum, sunflower, potatoes, sugar beets, and sugar cane. Sugar cane and sugar beets are actually the most popular way to make ethanol in other parts of the world. Scientists are also experimenting with cellulosic ethanol, which is ethanol made from woody fibers.
