Corn plastic can break down in landfills, but it can take anywhere from 100 to 1000 years to biodegrade completely. Regular plastic only begins to decompose after 700 years in a landfill, so corn plastic compares favorably to it. Unlike regular plastic, corn plastic can also be composted. However, this composting takes 1-6 months and can only be done in one of 113 commercial facilities, only a quarter of which accept residential waste.
