Eco tourism has helped with conservation efforts in various species. Eco tourism in Rwanda has not only helped the local population but has helped conserve the endangered mountain gorilla. The Community Baboon Sanctuary in Belize has helped conserve habitat to ensure the Howler monkey population stay stable. An integral part of the sanctuary is the eco tourism industry that brings thousands to the sanctuary yearly. Not only do the primates benefit from this, but it provides jobs and educational opportunities for local villages.
It is helpful- if you go to the right place. A great resource is the International Ecotourism Society, which seeks to unite communities, conservation, and sustainable travel. That website is a great resource for links to different companies and tips as to how you can make your trip sustainable! Bottom line, it helps travelers assist with or become more educated about conservation efforts in all parts of the world
