No, while the DOE does give a lot of money to car companies to develop new technologies for more efficient vehichles (Tesla, Ford and Nissan were collectively awarded approximately $8 billion last year) this is not the DOE’s largest fuding output. According to the pdf found here http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/fy2011/assets/energy.pdf the DOE has a budget of $54.5 billion for loans towards nuclear power facilities. Check out the publication for other funding outlined for the 2011 fiscal year.
