A chef in Australia identified desalinated water as “minerally”, while a wine expert called it “neutral”. This was in comparison to recycled sewage water and regular tap water. (Both men were able to pick out the tap water from among the three samples.)
The taste of desalinated water could also vary according to the method used to remove the salt and other impurities from the sea water, as well as the original content of the sea water. However, most desalinated water will taste similar to many of forms of municipal tap water.
